Slow Flow
The shape of a flow class at half the speed, with time to find each posture.
Typically slow · moderate
Postures still link on the breath — there is simply more breath per movement, and the teacher has time to say something useful about where you’re going.
The middle of most schedules: more continuous than hatha, much less demanding than power.
What to expect
- Sequences that repeat, so round two makes sense
- Sun salutations at a manageable pace
- Holds of three to five breaths inside the flow
- Warm, but not a sweaty room
Level
A good second or third class. Assumes you’ve met a downward dog before.
All levels welcome. Every class here is open to every body. Teachers offer options throughout, resting whenever you want to is always fine, and no studio expects you to know the poses on your first visit. Tell the teacher it is your first time — they would rather know.
Who it suits
- Wanting to move continuously without racing
- Anyone who found a flow class too fast
- A day when a hard class would be a bad idea
What it gives you
- Continuous movement with time to arrange yourself
- Sustainable weekly, with no recovery day
- The clearest bridge from beginners to vinyasa
Before you go
Bring water, though you won’t need much. Mats provided.
On heat — A heated slow flow is a good combination — the heat warms you so the pace doesn’t have to.
